Medical DNA Labs
Medical DNA Labs LLC is a premier full-service pharmacogenomics lab. Pharmacogenomics is the study of how genes affect a person’s response to drugs. This relatively new field combines pharmacology (the science of drugs) and genomics (the study of genes and their functions) to develop effective, safe medications and doses that will be tailored to a person’s genetic makeup.
Many drugs that are currently available are “one size fits all.” However, once introduce into the body they are metabolized differently. It can be difficult to predict who will benefit from a medication, who will not respond at all, and who will experience negative side effects (called adverse drug reactions).
As with all labs, accuracy and precision are key components. Here at Medical DNA Labs LLC, instead of testing for 3 common genes, we have opted to test for a total of 5. This in terms increase the accuracy and precision of our results.
Additional genes will be included in future using the Cardiac and Psychotropic test methods.
Pharmacogenomics is the study of genetic variations that influence an individual’s response to drugs. Knowing whether a patient carries any of these genetic variations can help prescribers individualize drug therapy, decrease the chance for adverse drug events, and increase the effectiveness of drugs. At Medical DNA Labs we test for five genes that are responsible for more than 90% of the drug metabolism.
These genes are CYP4502D6, CYP4502C9, CYP4502C19, CYP4503A4, CYP4503A5.
